Kiowa consists mainly of rolling grasslands; however, there are a number of treed areas in and around town, including the historic and beautiful Bijou Basin, where the plains buffalo used to winter. Some spectacular Rocky Mountain views exist around this area and a number of creeks pass through the the town.

• Kiowa is a small town located in the western portion of Elbert County.
• It has been the county seat since 1874.
• Kiowa has a population of 607 people.
