Golden lies along Clear Creek at the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountain foothills, 16 miles west of Denver. Golden has it all: fly fishing, a brewery tour, bumper boats, museums, fantastic art, and the Old West.

• Golden serves as the county seat for Jefferson County.
• Golden has a population of 17,159.
• Jefferson County has a population of 526,801.

Education

• Golden is part of the Jefferson County School District and has one high school, one middle school and eight elementary schools.
• Golden is home of the Colorado School of Mines and is well within reach of several other institutions of higher education including the University of Colorado at Boulder (20 miles).

Local Attractions

• The grave of Buffalo Bill Cody, of legendary Wild West Show fame, is situated on Lookout Mountain above town.
• Golden holds an annual celebration that marks Cody's birthday.
• Golden is also home of the Lookout Mountain Nature Center, the 1917 Boettcher Mansion, the Coors Brewery and the Colorado Railroad Museum, where you can actually climb around on old trains.
• Golden has easy access to nearby Golden Gate Canyon State Park and many of Colorado’s ski areas.
