Central City-Black Hawk is one of Colorado's oldest cities. Both are historic mining settlements in Gregory Gulch. The cities are historic mining settlements founded in 1859 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush.

Demographics

  • Black Hawk has a population of 232 people.
  • Central City has a population of 600.
  • Black Hawk and Central City are located in Gilpin County.
  • Gilpin County has a population of 4,757.

Education

  • Central City-Black Hawk schools are part of the Gilpin County School District with one elementary/middle school and one high school.
  • Central City-Black Hawk is also within 30 miles of three institutions of higher education: the University of Colorado at Boulder (22 miles), the Colorado School of Mines (23 miles) and Red Rocks Community College (27 miles).

Local Attractions

  • Central City-Black Hawk is the largest of three gambling districts in Colorado.
  • Despite their 22 casinos (which is more than Atlantic City), the towns lacks the neon glow that characterizes their counterparts and instead, has something very Colorado: cowboys.
  • Residents enjoy a quality of life enhanced by the vast recreational opportunities offered by Golden Gate State Park, the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, the limited-stakes gaming, a state-of-the-art recreation center and fairgrounds, low taxes and financially secure local government.

Location

  • Central City-Black Hawk is only an hour from Denver, a half-an-hour from Georgetown, an hour from Boulder and 25 minutes from beautiful Golden Gate Canyon State Park.
